Cummins Global Sales Increase in the Fourth Quarter of 2009

U.S. auto parts supplier Cummins Inc. held its fourth quarter 2009 earnings announcement on February 2.

According to statistics released by Cummins, in the fourth quarter of 2009, Cummins' global sales were US$3.4 billion, an increase of 3.4% compared to the same period in 2008 and an increase of 34% compared to the third quarter of 2009; EBIT accounted for sales. The percentage is 11.4%.

Cummins president and COO Tom Linebarger said that in the fourth quarter of 2009, Cummins’ four business divisions had an upward trend in global sales, achieving the best results since the second quarter of 2008.

Linebarger also summarized the company’s measures taken in response to falling demand in the past year as the following five points:

First, cost reduction measures.

Second, to balance production capacity and demand.

Third, despite the drop in demand, it still guarantees stable profits and abundant cash flow.

Fourth, increase investment in key projects and product technologies.

Fifth, maintain a good relationship with customers and share the same pains.

Linebarger said that the company’s profitability in the fourth quarter proves that the measures we have taken are wise.

Linebarger expects Cummins global sales will reach 11 billion US dollars in 2010, EBIT will account for 7% of sales.
