Fatal House explosion in Mundelein, 1-2-15

Mundelein firefighters were called to a house explosion this afternoon at 918 Killarney Pass Drive, just a few blocks away from Mundelein Fire Station 1. When they arrived, they found a serious fire burning inside a split-level home. The scene was chaotic, with thick smoke rising from the structure and emergency crews working quickly to contain the flames. According to the *Daily Herald*, one person has been confirmed dead in the incident, which took place on the north side of the village shortly before noon on Friday. Lake County Deputy Coroner Orlando Portillo confirmed that another individual who was inside the house was taken to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville for treatment. Local residents described hearing a loud explosion followed by the sound of flames roaring through the neighborhood.
