Fire Museum of Greater Chicago

On Saturday, the Fire Museum of Greater Chicago opened its doors for a special preview event, giving visitors a glimpse into the progress made so far. Although the museum is not yet fully open or complete, the effort put into the project is truly impressive. Over 70 guests attended, exploring a variety of exhibits including an Ahrens Fox pumper, vintage uniforms, helmets, buckets, scale models, an old fire alarm board, artwork, and photographs. The building itself looks fantastic, with its red bay doors adding a striking touch to the exterior. The 5-11 Club Canteen provided refreshments, and homemade pastries were available for snacking. Steve Redick was on site with his camera, capturing several photos of the event. His images offer a great visual record of the museum's current state and the many historical items on display. Among the highlights was a stunning historical painting now part of the museum collection, as well as a vintage status map from the Englewood Alarm Office. Visitors also had the chance to see a rare amplifier panel that Steve Redick once used during his time at the Englewood Alarm Office. A photo from the 1980s shows Steve posing with the same panel, offering a fascinating look back in time. This preview event was a great opportunity for the community to engage with the museum’s mission and see the dedication behind its development. With more exhibits planned and ongoing work underway, the Fire Museum of Greater Chicago is shaping up to be a valuable cultural and historical destination.
