Wang Liming, secretary-general of the China Machine Tool Industry Association, said that last year China's machine tool industry continued its rapid growth in 2010, but the growth rate has shown a slow decline since the second half of the year. The industrial restructuring of the industry has made remarkable progress, and high-end machine tools are in short supply. The structural upgrade of market demand accelerated, and imports hit a record high, while domestic demand for low-end products decreased significantly.

"Reinvention of new imports" shows that China's machine tool products, especially high-end products, cannot meet market demand. According to the information provided by the Machine Tool Association, the amount of metal processing machine tools imported from China, the world’s leading machine tool countries, increased by 50.3% and 40.0%, respectively, from the previous year; in terms of mid-range products, the amount of processing centers imported from Taiwan and South Korea was relatively low. The previous year also increased by 23.7% and 24.3%, respectively, and the key machine tool features are still dependent on imports.
