The Barrington Countryside Fire Protection District (FPD) responded to a house fire at 2 Windridge Road in South Barrington today, May 18, 2015, around 1:00 PM. Upon arrival, firefighters discovered sections of the cedar shake roof on fire and immediately requested a MABAS Box Alarm. As strong winds were reported, the incident was escalated to a second alarm, then a third as units were pulled back for an exterior attack.
Multiple handlines were deployed, with some crews using foam to control the flames. After a section of the roof was burned away, firefighters re-entered the structure to locate and extinguish hot spots and finish suppressing the remaining fire.
A large smoldering fire pit was found in the backyard, located upwind from the house, raising concerns about potential spread. The fire was eventually brought under control, though significant damage was done to the property.
Units from numerous departments were on scene, including Barrington Countryside FPD with two engines and two tenders. Additional engines came from Barrington, Lake Zurich, Algonquin, Fox River Grove, Hanover Park, West Dundee, Schaumburg, and Carpentersville. Ladder trucks arrived from Hoffman Estates, McHenry Twp, Countryside, and Palatine. Squad units from Libertyville and Cary, ambulances from Buffalo Grove and Long Grove, and multiple tenders from Long Grove, McHenry Twp, Nunda Rural, Crystal Lake, Prospect Heights, Palatine Rural, East Dundee, Bartlett, Wauconda, and Rutland-Dundee also responded. The MABAS Air 5 unit and the MESS Canteen were also present.
Several local agencies contributed to the response, highlighting the coordinated effort to manage the situation. The fire remains under investigation, and no injuries have been reported so far.
