Garage fire in Crystal Lake 11-22-12

A house fire broke out at a Crystal Lake home on Thanksgiving Day, caused by a deep fryer. According to the Northwest Herald, the incident occurred around noon on Thursday when Jon Ring was preparing a turkey for the holiday meal. He had placed a deep fryer in the garage, and shortly after, a fire started. Kim Ring, Jon’s wife, described the moment she realized something was wrong. “I came outside and smelled smoke. I knew it was the garage, so I ran in and told everyone, ‘The garage is on fire—get out!’” she said. Jon has been deep-frying turkeys for 15 years, but this was the first time something went wrong. The fire quickly spread, causing significant damage to the garage. The Crystal Lake Fire Rescue Department estimated the total damage at around $80,000, due to heat, smoke, and water used to put out the flames. Fire departments from McHenry Township and Woodstock also responded to the call, helping to control the blaze. For more details, you can read the full article HERE.
