Garage fire in Crystal Lake 11-22-12

A house fire broke out at a Crystal Lake residence on Thanksgiving Day, caused by a deep fryer. According to the Northwest Herald, the incident occurred around noon on Thursday when Jon Ring was preparing a turkey for the holiday meal. He had placed a deep fryer in the garage when the fire started. Kim Ring, his wife, recalled the moment she noticed the smoke. “I came outside and smelled it. I knew it was the garage, so I ran in and told everyone, ‘The garage is on fire—get out!’” Jon has been deep-frying turkeys for 15 years, but this was the first time something went wrong. The fire caused significant damage to the garage, with the Crystal Lake Fire Rescue Department estimating losses at approximately $80,000 due to heat, smoke, and water.
