MVA with fire in Prospect Heights, 5-1-21

Here's a statement from Prospect Heights Fire Department Chief Drew Smith:

At 5:07 AM on Saturday, May 1, both the Prospect Heights and Wheeling fire companies were called to an accident involving vehicle extrication on eastbound Palatine Road near Wolf. Upon arrival, first responders found a minivan engulfed in flames, with at least two other vehicles involved in the crash. The incident occurred just east of the Canadian National railroad bridge. Fortunately, no one was hospitalized despite the extensive damage to the vehicles. A Superior ambulance was also on scene, as they couldn't pass through the crash area. According to reports, they had already begun triage before the fire crews arrived.

The incident is currently under investigation, and authorities are working to determine the cause of the crash. Local residents have reported hearing loud explosions and seeing smoke rising from the area shortly after the accident. Emergency crews worked quickly to contain the fire and clear the road, which caused significant delays for morning commuters. No injuries have been reported so far, but officials are reminding drivers to stay alert and cautious when passing through the area.
