In 2004, Shanghai Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding Co., Ltd. made significant progress in the "Innovation Record Golden Rooster Award" labor competition among its employees. The company set 23 new records in shipbuilding and topped the Shanghai Shipbuilding Industry Labor Competition. Recently, based on this year's corporate goals, the company launched a new initiative called the "Golden Chicken Award for Shipbuilding Big Node Competition."
The "Innovation Record Golden Rooster Award" competition introduced last year featured seven major projects aimed at driving innovation across various aspects of shipbuilding. These included reducing the ship design cycle, achieving domestic advanced standards in segmental construction, setting new records in docking periods, improving the pre-assembly rate for high-rise structures, shortening the mooring test cycle, excelling in new ship construction, and creating national-level records in production and operations. To support these efforts, the company developed comprehensive evaluation methods, incentive standards, and activity guidelines.
The competition was structured around the production cycle set by the company’s operations department, with incremental performance evaluations. At the end of the competition, the general manager announced the results, presenting the "Golden Chicken Trophy," awards, and bonuses to the winning teams.
Due to the close alignment with real-world production and operations, the competition saw strong employee participation, leading to new achievements in building large ships. According to statistics from the 2005 "Innovation Record Golden Rooster Award" competition, 284 employees recognized the company as an excellent organizer. As a result of the competition, the company successfully transitioned from a "double 90-day" cycle for dock and terminal operations to a "double 60-day" cycle. On average, each ship's construction period was reduced by three months compared to the original plan, with the total amount exceeding 2 million DWT.
