5-Alarm fire in Waukegan, 2-2-22

Over 100 firefighters worked through the night on Wednesday to put out a fire at Bay Marine, a boat storage facility in Waukegan. Around 8 p.m., emergency crews responded to an automatic alarm and found flames inside the building at 3 E. Madison St.

The blaze was escalated to a fourth alarm due to freezing temperatures and challenges in navigating the complex structure, which housed approximately 70 large boats.

The fire was fully extinguished by 2:30 a.m. No injuries were reported, and the cause of the fire is still under investigation.

Waukegan Fire Department sent Engine 65, a 2021 Rosenbauer Panther 6x6 ARFF unit from the Waukegan Airport, to apply foam inside the burning building.
