Chicago FD assists CPD with protesters

A significant protest took place in downtown Chicago, leading to multiple arrests as law enforcement officials from across the globe met at McCormick Place for their annual conference. The demonstrators were calling for racial justice and police reform.

Over a dozen people were taken into custody during the demonstrations, primarily due to a sit-in that blocked the middle of the street. The protest aimed to disrupt the largest gathering of public safety leaders in the country, which attracted more than 14,000 officers.

The march started from the Chicago Police Department headquarters on 35th Street and Michigan Avenue, moving toward McCormick Place where the International Association of Chiefs of Police was holding its conference. The event drew a large crowd of activists who are pushing for changes in how police interact with communities of color.

"Our goal today is to make sure our voices are heard," said Maria Hadden, a local activist. "We want to show the power of a united community, emphasize that Black lives matter, and push this influential organization to rethink its policies." She also called for shifting funding from policing to community support programs.

Another group of protesters staged a sit-in near Cermak Road and Indiana Avenue, blocking traffic. After refusing to move, about a dozen individuals were arrested by the police.
