New Engine for Elwood FPD

The Elwood Fire Protection District (FPD) in Illinois recently received a brand-new industrial foam pumper from Sutphen, equipped with a National Foam system. This state-of-the-art apparatus is designed to handle demanding fire scenarios, especially those involving flammable liquids and industrial hazards. The pumper features a 256-inch wheelbase, with a travel height of 11 feet 11 inches and a total length of 37 feet 6 inches. It's built on a Sutphen chassis with a 73-inch base and a half 15-inch raised roof, offering ample space and visibility for the crew. The four-door cab can accommodate up to four personnel, complete with two EMS cabinets for medical equipment storage. Under the hood, the unit is powered by a Detroit Diesel S60 engine rated at 515 horsepower, paired with an Allison GEN IV EVS4000 transmission. A Leece Neville 320-amp alternator ensures reliable electrical support. The pump system is a Hale 8FG model, delivering 300 gallons per minute, with multiple discharge points including 5-inch, 3-inch, and 2.5-inch outlets, as well as a high-flow deck gun capable of 5,300 GPM. The truck also includes a 750-gallon water tank and a 300-gallon foam tank, along with the National Foam Servo Command 300 system for efficient foam application. The body is constructed by Sutphen, featuring a PA-12 configuration, roll-up doors, and a total of 234 cubic feet of compartment space. It comes with a Duo-Safety ladder complement and rear chute storage for ladders. Optional equipment includes a Harrison 20W generator, a Safety Vision camera system, and a Command Light 8000W light tower, enhancing both functionality and safety during operations. This new pumper represents a significant upgrade for the Elwood FPD, providing advanced capabilities to protect the community and respond effectively to complex emergencies.
