In the early hours of the morning, under the guidance of the Communist Youth League, the Shanxi Provincial Green Enterprise Association, and the Shanxi Provincial Development and Reform Commission, a group of 24 young entrepreneurs from the Chinese Youth Entrepreneur Shanxi delegation met with members of the Shanxi Provincial Young Entrepreneurs Association. The meeting focused on exploring potential collaboration opportunities and initiating preliminary discussions on various projects. Entrepreneurs raised key concerns regarding investment, and officials from economic departments provided immediate responses. Among the topics discussed, the equipment manufacturing industry emerged as a central theme, drawing significant attention from participants.
During the opening session, Wang Fu, Deputy Director of the Shanxi Provincial Development and Reform Commission, presented an overview of the current investment landscape in Shanxi and offered a detailed analysis of key investment sectors. He expressed confidence that now is the best time to invest in the region. According to him, industries such as coal chemical processing, equipment manufacturing, materials production, tourism services, and high-tech innovation are being actively supported by the provincial government. These sectors are expected to become major pillars of Shanxi’s future economic growth, and he encouraged entrepreneurs to explore opportunities in these areas.
The equipment manufacturing sector particularly captured the interest of attendees. Deng Wenyun, Executive President of Shenzhen Science and Technology Holdings Co., Ltd. and Deputy Secretary-General of the China Young Entrepreneurs Association, was the first to ask about investment incentives in this field. He inquired about the rationale behind the industry's potential and the basis for its market forecasts. Wang Fu quickly responded, citing specific data to support his points.
He explained that Shanxi has a substantial annual demand for coal machinery—600 tons—and coal machinery spare parts—200 tons. Additionally, the province requires 80,000 heavy trucks each year. While Shanxi currently lacks heavy truck assembly capabilities, it does produce key components such as engines and gearboxes. By attracting investors to integrate these parts, the market potential for equipment manufacturing could be very promising. In 2003, the province had plans to launch a heavy truck project in Taiyuan and Yuncheng, but it never materialized due to various challenges. However, the existing demand for 80,000 heavy trucks remains solid, as there are already 40,000 trucks registered in Shanxi and another 40,000 operating under foreign licenses. This totals to a significant market demand. Moreover, Shanxi already has a heavy truck catalog, eliminating the need for re-approval, which simplifies the investment process and makes it more attractive.
Zhao Ying, Chairman of Beijing Jiahua Yongye Trading Co., Ltd. and also a Deputy Secretary-General of the China Young Entrepreneurs Association, asked about the level of government support for equipment manufacturing. Wang Fu confirmed that the provincial government is committed to fostering this industry. As a new and strategic sector, the government will provide transitional support over the next three to five years. In the short term, favorable policies will be introduced to encourage development. He emphasized that Shanxi is highly supportive of this industry, offering strong preferential treatment to attract investors and ensure long-term success.
