The first LED display technology specification was released at the dawn of the LED market. The first "LED Next Generation Display Technology Specification" (hereinafter referred to as "Specifications") jointly sponsored by the China Electronics Chamber of Commerce and the Tsinghua University Color Research Institute and numerous companies was officially announced. This is also the first industry self-regulation norm since the LED entered the market.
Lu Jianbo, deputy secretary-general of the China Electronics Chamber of Commerce, said in an interview that due to the emerging LED market, the volume has not been released on a large scale. In order to avoid the problems such as the true and false 4K TV that appeared, everyone unanimously decided before the introduction of the national standard. The self-disciplined norms of the nature of industry alliances should be first introduced to ensure the order of the LED market in the future and effectively constrain the future market.
It is understood that the "Specifications" from the display viewing angle, color saturation, contrast, response speed, body thickness and weight, surface design and other six aspects, LED TV has been fully defined. Among them, the specified color gamut coverage can reach 115 or more; the contrast can reach infinite contrast; the response time can be less than 1 microsecond; the thickness can reach less than 5 mm; the optimal surface design is presented.
Lu Jianbo said that there are many LED TVs sold by LG, Changhong, Skyworth, Konka and other companies on the market. The mainstream size is 55 inches, and more sizes will be available for sale in the future.
Whether or not to use surface design has become the focus of controversy. It can be seen from the "Specifications" that the best surface design is presented as one of the six normative indicators. However, in the member units that initiated the "Specifications", non-surface design has also been introduced. The product, whether LED TV should be designed as a curved surface has become the focus of industry controversy.
Liu Weizhi, president of Shenzhen Skyworth-RGB Electronics Co., Ltd., said in an interview that Skyworth's 55-inch LED TV will not use curved surface design, and said that the 55-inch curved LED market is not playing. He stressed that the 55-inch TV made a curved surface is not conducive to family members to watch together, there will be blind spots of perspective. Larger-sized curved LEDs will have more visual impact, and curved surfaces are more effective.
LGDisplay, one of the two major LED panel suppliers, also introduced products with different designs in its own LG Electronics LED TV products. The same 55-inch LED TV LG uses both flat and curved designs.
The industry explained: In fact, the LED is made into a curved surface and a plane, which does not increase any technical cost. Since the LED characteristic is thin, it can be controlled below 5 mm, so the large-sized flat panel naturally has bending characteristics, so the LED property It is decided that it can be designed as a curved TV, but how to design the terminal products in the market depends on how the company chooses.
The drafters of the "Regulations" said in an interview that in the norm-setting process, they mainly want to tell enterprises in the industry and consumers what LEDs should look like. Therefore, writing surface design into "Specifications" does not mean that they must be curved surfaces. LED is the LED, because LCD TV can also be made into a curved surface but the cost will be greatly improved, so LED is the most suitable for the surface. The content specified in the Code is to present the best surface design, which means that the LED can present the curved surface design and is the best solution. It is not stipulated that the LED TV must be made into a curved surface design.
The display effect is superior to LCD TV as a new generation display technology, and LED has many advantages in comparison with LCD TVs on the market. Sun Qifeng said that because it is a new generation of display technology, the market is still in the training period, and some actual conditions in the market need to be further improved and comprehensive investigations, so the national standards have not been introduced soon.
However, Lu Renbo stressed that since the market is just in the start-up period, and the national standards still need to go through complicated processes such as initiation, project, draft, and submission, it is difficult for national standards to be introduced in advance in the market. It depends on the product characteristics in the actual market, and the actual needs of consumers, and then jointly initiated, discussed, etc. by the enterprise, which takes quite a while.
