Homewood has been added to the site

In Division 24, the Homewood Fire Department recently joined our website. They are responsible for covering an area of five square miles, employing a mix of full-time and part-time staff. Their fleet includes vehicles from reputable manufacturers like Pierce, Smeal, Crimson, and 3D. One unique feature of their fleet is the diversity of chassis manufacturers represented at their station. The Pierce vehicle uses a Lance chassis, while they also have one cab and chassis each from HME, Spartan, and Pemfab. Additionally, they maintain two primary ambulances at their station, along with a reserve ambulance that they share with Flossmoor and Hazel Crest. Recently, the Homewood Fire Department made headlines by selling their 1982 Mack MR engine to Ford Heights. Looking ahead, they are eagerly anticipating the arrival of a brand-new aerial truck from Pierce next March. The sale of this older model marks a shift towards modernization within their fleet, as they continue to serve their community efficiently. The Mack MR engine, Engine 536, which was manufactured in 1982, had served them well over the years but was eventually replaced due to its age and maintenance needs. A photograph of this engine, taken by Karl Klotz, captures its essence before it moved on to its new home in Ford Heights. In another interesting development, Homewood’s Truck 550, delivered back in 1987, holds a special place in history. This vehicle originally came equipped with an open rear jump seat and featured lettering for both Homewood and Flossmoor. It’s a testament to the collaborative spirit between neighboring departments during that era. The image of Truck 550 was sourced from the Larry Shapiro collection, providing a nostalgic glimpse into the past.
