Northbrook technical rescue 3-18-14

This message comes from Larry Shapiro: Early this morning, Northbrook fire units were dispatched to 1751 W. Lake Cook Road in Deerfield just before 11 AM following a report of a worker who had fallen 15 feet into a concrete well next to a building. Upon arrival, emergency responders found a window washer who had been working above a steel grate covering the opening. Tragically, an angle iron securing one side of the grate gave way, causing the worker to plummet into the hole below. A Technical Rescue Team (TRT) response was immediately requested. Firefighters descended into the well to stabilize the injured worker and secure him inside a Stokes basket. Meanwhile, rope technicians set up rigging systems to safely hoist the victim back to ground level. Attached are several photos capturing the scene and the coordinated efforts of the responders. In one image, you can see Northbrook Tower 12 positioned directly over the concrete well where the accident occurred. Another shows a ladder being carefully placed over the opening as part of the rescue operation. Additional shots highlight members of MABAS Division 3’s TRT squad working diligently to prepare the necessary equipment. There's also a close-up of the ladder being secured in place and firefighters on the ground passing essential tools up to their colleagues working with the patient. In subsequent frames, the Stokes basket is shown being pulled out of the hole, marking a critical step in the rescue process. Firefighters then transport the injured worker to a waiting gurney for further medical attention. One particularly striking photo reveals the angle iron that failed, breaking free from its perch on the ledge. Another offers a sobering glimpse into the confined space where the accident took place. For those interested in seeing more images from the incident, a full gallery is available online at shapirophotography.net. Unfortunately, I am unable to embed the video footage here, but it provides additional context to the intense teamwork required during such emergencies. The seamless coordination between various teams underscores the importance of specialized training in situations like these. Let me know if you need any clarifications or further details!
