Renishaw's latest NC4 laser tool-aligning probes significantly expand the range of non-contact laser tool-setting solutions available in the market. Designed for fast, accurate, and reliable tool detection, the NC4 system is ideal for applications where traditional methods were previously ineffective or impractical—especially in modified equipment setups. With its compact design, the system features ultra-small laser transmitters and receivers, measuring just 30mm in diameter and 35mm in height, making it easy to integrate into tight spaces.
The NC4 system offers high-precision tool setting with repeatability that can be maintained over distances of up to 5 meters. It supports measurements of tools as small as 0.2 mm in diameter at any point along the laser beam, and can detect even minor damage on tools as tiny as 0.1 mm. This level of accuracy makes it a valuable addition to modern CNC machining environments where precision and reliability are critical.
Built to withstand tough industrial conditions, the NC4 probe housing is made from durable stainless steel and is rated IPX8, ensuring protection against water, dust, and other contaminants. The MicroHol protection system uses continuous compressed air to shield the sensor from metal chips, coolant, and graphite during operation. In the event of a gas supply failure, an advanced fail-safe seal ensures continued protection and maintains the IPX8 sealing standard, preventing contamination and downtime.
Installation and setup of the NC4 system are straightforward thanks to its simple, modular design. The system consists of just one transmitter and one receiver, and users can easily replace the units to adjust for different measurement distances. There’s no need to calibrate or identify the laser focus, which simplifies the configuration process. A new visual LED indicator on top of the transmitter unit provides real-time feedback on the system’s operational status, enhancing user confidence and control.
The NC4 tool-setting system is available in two configurations: a fixed version with a 300mm separation and a separate version that can operate over a 5-meter distance.
