A commercial fire broke out at 2441 W. 21st Street after 1 PM today. First responders arrived to find a three-story, brick commercial factory/warehouse fully involved in flames. The incident quickly escalated to a 4-11 alarm, with an EMS Plan I and a Haz Mat Level I activated. The building was bordered by railroad tracks on the west and the elevated CTA tracks on the north, which were shut down for several hours. EMS operations were secured quickly, and the 4-11 wasn't called off until around 4 PM. Several companies remained on scene throughout the night.
Two Snorkels (Squad 1 and the reserve Snorkel) worked alongside four tower ladders (5, 10, 39, and 54). There's a significant amount of coverage from multiple contributors, and we'll be posting more details over the next few days.

I rode into the city to check out the 4-11 with a Level 1 Haz-Mat and EMS Plan 1 at 2444 W. 21st Street. The header was huge—I saw it all the way in Berwyn on Ogden Avenue. When I got close, the CPD had a four-block perimeter, so no close-ups. Staging was at 22nd and Western. Traffic was terrible. Here are some shots of the header and Engine 113 speeding down 22nd. Great work, guys!

- 13:08 – E23 looking for rubbish at 2500 W. Cullerton St. Full still b/o Main FAO for 2444 W. 21st St.
- 13:13 – Still & Box Alarm b/o Batt 4 for a 3-story, 200x100 smoke on 2nd floor and heavy smoke from first-floor windows.
- 13:20 – 2-11 Alarm b/o 2-2-1 reports heavy fire throughout the 3-story warehouse (200x150).
- 13:31 – 2-2-1 requests additional tower ladders and reserve snorkel.
- 13:38 – 3-11 Alarm b/o 2-1-28 plus 2 additional tower ladders.
- 13:45 – 4-11 Alarm / EMS Plan 1 / Level 1 HazMat b/o 2-1-28.
- 13:58 – 2-7-1/Batt 4 using 4 master streams on the west side with little progress.
- 14:00 – EMS Plan 1 secured.
- 14:04 – 2-1-3 takes command. All officers switch to Ch 5 Command.
- 14:30 – 11 master streams working, gas company digging in Sector 1 to shut off main, one line to sprinkler system in Sector 4.
