This is from Scott Peterson:
On Tuesday morning, February 19, 2013, a fire alarm was triggered at a home in the Lake Barrington Shores area on Shoreline Road, located in Wauconda. The property is part of a gated community. The initial dispatch was for smoke coming from the structure and a report of someone trapped inside. As units were en route, another medical alert came in indicating an activated smoke detector.Fire crews from Wauconda and Lake Zurich responded quickly. The first-in engine from Wauconda and a Lake Zurich engine arrived simultaneously as part of an auto-aid response. Both crews were aware of the reported person trapped and immediately began a search. They quickly located the victim and extracted them from the building. The victim was taken to a Nunda Rural ambulance that had been specially called by the Wauconda Shift Commander while still en route, since the Nunda unit was close to the scene. Unfortunately, the victim was pronounced deceased upon arrival at the hospital. The fire remained contained to the original structure with no spread to other units in the neighborhood.I arrived at the scene just after the fire department had completed their primary search and removed the victim. I’ve included a few photos showing what the scene looked like at the time.Scott
