Wauconda Fatal Fire 2-19-13

On Tuesday, February 19, 2013, a Box alarm was dispatched to a residence at 612 Shoreline Road in Lake Barrington Shores, Wauconda. This is a gated community. The initial call was for smoke coming from the structure and a report of someone trapped inside. While en route, another medical alert was received indicating an activated smoke detector. Fire crews from Wauconda and Lake Zurich arrived quickly, responding through auto-aid. The first-in engine from Wauconda and the Lake Zurich engine worked together to knock down the fire rapidly. Knowing that someone had been reported trapped, they immediately began a primary search and located the victim within minutes.

The victim was taken to a Nunda Rural ambulance, which had been specially called by the Wauconda Shift Commander while still en route, as the Nunda unit was close to the scene. Unfortunately, after arriving at the hospital, the victim was pronounced deceased. The fire was contained to the original unit with no spread to neighboring homes.

I arrived on the scene just after the fire department had completed their search and removed the victim. Here are some photos of what I saw at the scene.
