Homewood has been added to the site

In Division 24, the Homewood Fire Department recently joined our website. Covering an area of five square miles, this department operates with a mix of full-time and part-time staff. Their fleet includes apparatus from top manufacturers such as Pierce, Smeal, Crimson, and 3D. One fascinating aspect of their fleet is the variety of chassis manufacturers represented. For instance, their Pierce vehicle uses a Lance chassis, while they also have cabs and chassis from HME, Spartan, and Pemfab. Additionally, they maintain two active ambulances at their station and share a reserve ambulance with Flossmoor and Hazel Crest. This reserve unit is stationed at the Hazel Crest location. All the images shared here were contributed by Karl Klotz. Recently, the Homewood Fire Department made headlines by selling their 1982 Mack MR engine to Ford Heights. Looking ahead, they’re eagerly anticipating the arrival of a brand-new aerial ladder truck from Pierce next March. This upcoming addition will surely enhance their operational capabilities. In fact, just last month, they put up for sale their older Engine 536, which had been faithfully serving the community since its construction in 1982. This particular model, mounted on a Mack MR chassis, was captured in a photograph by Karl Klotz before it found its new home in Ford Heights. Another highlight of their fleet is Truck 550, which was delivered back in 1987. This vehicle features an open rear jump seat and proudly displays the logos of both Homewood and Flossmoor. As per the Larry Shapiro collection, this piece of firefighting history holds significant value for enthusiasts and historians alike. It’s exciting to see how the Homewood Fire Department continues to evolve while preserving elements of its storied past.
