4-Alarm fire in Fox River Grove, 9-29-13

At around 6:15 PM on September 29th, the Algonquin-Lake in the Hills Fire Department received a call about a structure fire at 1 Algonquin Road in Barrington Hills. Algonquin Engine 143 initially responded, but since the location fell under Fox River Grove's jurisdiction, the department was dispatched instead. Upon arrival, crews reported a large fire, prompting Fox River Grove command to request a second alarm for Box Card #5-670. Algonquin Engine 143 pulled back to begin a tanker operation, supplying water to the Fox River Grove engine positioned in front of the building.

The second alarm brought in several units, including Lakewood Engine 1041, Carpentersville Engine 941, Palatine Engine 81, Hoffman Estates Engine 23, a Spring Grove engine, Barrington Tender 362, Crystal Lake Tender 371, East Dundee Tender 471, Nunda-Rural Tender 1371, Huntley Tender 973, Wauconda Ambulance 341, Marengo Rescue Ambulance 1152, and several chiefs from Algonquin, Barrington, Crystal Lake, and Huntley, along with Lake Zurich as RIT, a Cary Safety Officer, EMA, and the Salvation Army.

Shortly after the second alarm was called, command escalated to a fourth alarm on Box Card 5-670. The fourth alarm response included Fox Lake Engine 244, a Mundelein engine, a Grayslake engine, Elgin Engine 1, Schaumburg Engine 54, Rolling Meadows Engine 16, Woodstock Tender 73, Palatine Rural Tender 36, McHenry Tender 1274, Wonder Lake Tender 1671, Richmond Tender 1472, Hebron Tender 871, and several chiefs from Lake Zurich, McHenry, Wauconda, and Lakewood, plus Air 5.

The fire burned for approximately 2 to 3 hours before being brought under control. It was a significant event, with multiple departments working together to contain the blaze and ensure the safety of residents in the area.
