Chicago Still & Box Alarm fire 7-22-14

This is from Eric Haak: Just before 6:30 PM on Tuesday evening, July 22nd, the chief of Chicago’s 22nd Battalion arrived at the scene of a working fire in a two-story frame home. The fire had started in the rear portion of the attic and quickly spread throughout the upper level. With a three-story apartment building made of wood framing as a nearby exposure (Sector D), and temperatures reaching nearly 100 degrees, the 22nd Battalion quickly requested a Still & Box Alarm. Heavy flames were visible through the roof and the dormer window on Sector B, but within minutes, the fire began to subside and was brought under control. The truck seen in the photos is Engine 27. This marked the second time in three days that Engines 75 and 62 responded to a working fire in their district. Eric Haak captured several powerful images of the incident, showing heavy smoke pouring from the structure, flames breaking through the roof, and firefighters working under extreme heat conditions. His photos also highlight the aftermath of the fire and the emergency vehicles involved, including the Spartan Engine 75. These images provide a vivid look into the intensity of the situation and the dedication of the firefighters who responded to this challenging call.
