Illinois LODD – Hudson FF killed and 5 injured

Six members of the Hudson Fire Department from western McLean County were injured, with one losing their life, while responding to a multi-vehicle accident on a snow-covered interstate near Hudson on Tuesday night. The incident occurred around 9:45 p.m. when a southbound semi-truck carrying vehicles lost control and struck emergency vehicles belonging to the Hudson Fire Department and the Illinois State Police. According to a statement from McLean County Coroner Beth Kimmerling and the Hudson Community Fire Protection District, 39-year-old Christopher R. Brown, a volunteer firefighter with the Hudson Community Fire Protection District, was fatally injured after being struck by the truck. Preliminary findings indicate that he suffered multiple blunt force injuries to his head, chest, and pelvis. Brown, who also worked as a full-time firefighter with the Bloomington Fire Department, was married and the father of two young sons. Hudson Fire Chief Dan Hite expressed deep sorrow over the loss, calling Brown "a member of our Hudson family." He emphasized the emotional impact of the tragedy on the entire department, stating, "We share in the sorrow felt by his loved ones, and we must not forget the valuable contributions he made to this community and the impact he has left on the Hudson Fire Department." The names of the other injured firefighters have not yet been released, but it is reported that they are receiving medical care at local hospitals. Local officials and residents are mourning the loss and expressing support for the affected families during this difficult time. This tragic event serves as a reminder of the dangers faced by first responders every day.
