Pangang successfully rolled 75mm triple piece square steel

Recently, Panzhihua Iron & Steel Co., Ltd. has made significant progress by leveraging independent innovation and adopting advanced technologies to successfully roll 75mm triple-joint square steel, a breakthrough that sets it apart from domestic competitors. This achievement effectively addresses the long-standing challenge of producing small square steel on large-scale rolling mills, significantly improving production efficiency—more than tripling the output compared to previous methods. This development lays a solid foundation for Panzhihua Steel to implement its premium brand strategy and further develop specialized steel products. The triple-joint rolling technology involves designing three identical grooves on a single roll, allowing three pieces of the same specification to be rolled sequentially from a single billet. This innovative approach is entirely new in China, as there is currently no existing experience or reference for such a process. One of the main challenges lies in ensuring uniform metal distribution during the rolling of three separate sections and maintaining fullness in the groove system throughout the process. Additionally, the existing 950 production line was originally designed to handle only 90-degree bends, making it difficult to produce more complex shapes like 45-degree angles. Through the development of novel technologies and control systems, Panzhihua Steel successfully rolled a 380 × 280 mm billet into 75mm triple-joint square steel in one pass. This accomplishment marks a major milestone in the company's technological advancement. Currently, the 75mm triple-joint square steel is in mass production, signaling a strong step forward in the company’s efforts to enhance product quality, diversify its offerings, and strengthen its position in the global steel market.
