New Deputy Chief for Oak Park

From the Village of Oak Park:

January 9, 2015 – Peter Pilafas was officially promoted to the rank of Deputy Chief within the Oak Park Fire Department during a special ceremony held on January 5 at Village Hall, located at 123 Madison Street.

In his new role as Deputy Chief, Pilafas will be responsible for managing the day-to-day operations of the department, including overseeing personnel, budgeting, and policy development. As the second-in-command, he will also play a critical role in directing command-level responses during major emergencies.

Before this promotion, Pilafas served as the officer in charge of an engine company and was instrumental in organizing firefighter training, CPR classes, and child safety seat inspections. One of his key objectives for 2014 was the introduction of a new computer-aided dispatch system in collaboration with the West Suburban Consolidated Dispatch Center.

Pilafas has dedicated nearly two decades to the firefighting profession, with the past 15 years spent in Oak Park. He holds a master’s degree in public administration from Governor’s State University and another in business administration from Benedictine University.

This promotion is part of a broader set of leadership changes within the fire department. Donald Michael Bush was promoted to Battalion Chief, while Gregory Badger and Jacob Gloodt were both elevated to the rank of Lieutenant. These changes are expected to result in the hiring of four new firefighter/paramedics by the end of January.

The community has been watching these developments closely, as they signal a renewed focus on leadership and operational efficiency within the department.

Thanks, Dan
