New Deputy Chief for Oak Park

From the Village of Oak Park:

January 9, 2015 – Peter Pilafas has been officially promoted to Deputy Chief of the Oak Park Fire Department in a ceremony held at Village Hall on January 5th, located at 123 Madison Street.

In his new role, Pilafas will take charge of daily operations within the department, including managing staff, developing budgets, and shaping policies. As the second-in-command, he will also be responsible for leading the department’s command response during emergencies, ensuring smooth and effective coordination during critical situations.

Before this promotion, Pilafas led an engine company and was involved in organizing firefighter training, CPR classes, and child safety seat inspections. In 2014, one of his key objectives was the implementation of a new computer-aided dispatch system in collaboration with the West Suburban Consolidated Dispatch Center, aimed at improving efficiency and communication across the region.

Pilafas has dedicated nearly two decades to firefighting, with the past 15 years spent in Oak Park. He holds a Master’s in Public Administration from Governor’s State University and a Master’s in Business Administration from Benedictine University, reflecting his commitment to both leadership and professional growth.

This promotion is part of a broader wave of leadership changes within the fire department. Donald Michael Bush was promoted to Battalion Chief, while Gregory Badger and Jacob Gloodt were each elevated to the rank of Lieutenant. These changes are expected to result in the hiring of four new firefighter/paramedics by the end of January, strengthening the department’s capacity to serve the community effectively.

Thanks Dan
